trubia26 Posted October 26, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2013 Another question! I know these patches are for Amphibious forces (blue for Army and red for Navy) I only have one question...I know the Army brigade was for Engineers...but the Navy one...is only for navy engineers too? Grant S. Posted October 26, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2013 I've seen pictures with landing craft crew wearing them, but they could have been Army crew. Navy "engineers" would be Sea Bees, who had their own patch, so I expect it would be Boatswain's Mates and Machinists Mates wearing them.
subsystem4 Posted October 26, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 26, 2013 The Army didn't crew landing craft. Landing craft crew were Navy or Coast Guard sailors. The Navy Amphibious forces patch could be worn by any sailor serving on any amphibious ship or craft which includes ships like APDs, APAs(attack transports), AKAs(attack cargo ships) LSTs(Landing Ship Tank) and all the smaller landing craft, LCTs, LCVPs, LCIs, etc. -Jay
patches Posted October 26, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 26, 2013 Army Engineer Boat and Shore Regiments operated vessels, these were mostly out in the Pacific. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineer_Special_Brigade_(United_States) Here is a few sites on them that I could find. http://ebsr.net/593rdEBSR.htm http://544th.webs.com/ http://apps.westpointaog.org/Memorials/Article/8245/

patches Posted October 26, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 26, 2013 And the Army Amphib patch wasn't just for Engineers. RC That's right Rusty, all personel assigned to a Engineer Special Brigade wore it, Medical Aidmen, Signal Corps, and Ordnance Corps guys etc etc.
PaulR Posted October 27, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2013 My grandfather was a navy corpsman in the Pacific and he wore this red patch on his uniforms.
trubia26 Posted October 27, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted October 27, 2013 So with the Engineers brigade happens the same that with the Infantry divisions...I mean...not all soldiers are infantrymen in the Infantry divisions an not all men are engineers y Engineers brigades...all branches working together again...right? uplandmod Posted October 27, 2013 Share #9 Posted October 27, 2013 I would think maybe the Army DUKW operator units would have worn the army amphibious patches? I have yet to find a coat from a DUKW unit vet to confirm this. Also it's not all army Engineer units just the amphibious related ones like the special engineer units etc. Great thread! Right, the Engineer Special Brigade was a self contained unit, if you look at the Wiki link at the orders of battle of the Brigades you will see a array of units within these Brigades that were not Engineer, but remember, these Brigades WOULD NOT have Infantry, Artillery, ot Tank Tank Destroyer units in them. While these Brigades could and were used in Combat during Amphibious Assaults, they are considered by virtue of them being an Engineer unit as Combat Support. patches Posted October 27, 2013 Share #11 Posted October 27, 2013 Believe it or not Navy Amphibious units were involved in several of the Rhine River Crossings, they manned LCVPs.
