Bob Hudson Posted January 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2007 Does she smoke after snaps? Those are great old ads. So did the Marines actually have a woman doing aerial photography in those days?
craig_pickrall Posted January 19, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted January 19, 2007 I don't know for sure that they had women in that job but I don't see any reason why not. They had women pilots, air craft mechanics, etc.
Charlie Flick Posted January 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 19, 2007 Unfortunately for Florence, if she kept up her Camel cigarette habit after the war she was probably dead of lung cancer or emphysema by 1965. Actor John Wayne appeared in similar cigarette ads, but cancer finally got him too. Charlie
Gregory Posted June 12, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 12, 2007 So did the Marines actually have a woman doing aerial photography in those days? At least the USMC Sgt Grace L. Wyman.
craig_pickrall Posted June 13, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted June 13, 2007 I wonder if Florence and Grace are the same woman?
Greg Sebring Posted September 13, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2010 Thought I'd "breathe" some more life into this old thread. According to the 1939 Popular Mechanics (November), I found tonight at my inlaws old house, the Marines on the ground prefer Chesterfields??? I also found a July 1944 "American Photography" with an article on WWII aerial photography Greg

cutiger83 Posted November 22, 2013 Share #10 Posted November 22, 2013 Florence and Grace were different persons. Grace was my Aunt. That is very interesting that Grace was your aunt. Do you have any information on her service? It would be great to hear more about her life. ...Kat
