VF-51 Screaming Eagles flight suit patch and name plate 1971-1972.

What is the correct flight suit patch for VF-51 during the 1971-1972 cruise aboard the USS Coral Sea? Does the patch have a tab on

the bottom with VF-51 or a tab with Fighting Fifty One? Also, it appears that the name plate has three stripes on the upper corner.

Was the name plate patch made from black leather or embroidered? If embroidered, what were the colors? Any help would be

appreciated.

I just received the book Gray Ghosts. It is about USN/USMC Phantoms. The book has 2-3 good pics of VF-51 flight suit patches.

I also noticed the use of rank patches or USAF type plastic encased rank on the shoulders.

Almost always the wing on a Navy patch is gold/yellow

gold or white.

What were the colors of the letters and wing? Also, do you know the material and color of the rank

on the shoulders?
