Jim McCauley Posted October 14, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 14, 2013 Greetings All, I know it's fairly modern but have never encountered this type before. Any ideas what it is and who used it? Thanks in advance. Jim

HarleyQuinn Posted October 14, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 14, 2013 Any chance you can remove the cover and snap a photo of the respirator?
Jim McCauley Posted October 14, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted October 14, 2013 The last picture shows what's under the cover. Not complete for sure but it was free!
HarleyQuinn Posted October 14, 2013 Share #9 Posted October 14, 2013 Can the hood be removed at all for a better view? My fella knows his masks, so I'm just kind of takling through him at the moment.
Jim McCauley Posted October 14, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted October 14, 2013 Ooops! Sorry I missed the reply. It's dark now, I'll try my best to get a good shot of it without the cover tomorrow. Many thanks. Jim
fallout Posted October 18, 2013 Share #11 Posted October 18, 2013 If I had to guess I would say it was an air force mask but I don't know, looks like it was made in 1994 so not army as they used the m17 and m40. It could also be a tanker mask but again I don't know.
Retro Posted October 25, 2013 Share #12 Posted October 25, 2013 Coming in late on this one, but it's a mask made by Interspiro. I'm unsure of the exact nomenclature/designation, but it is likely just an SCBA part number. It's a fairly unique mask in that it can swap between SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus; basically an air pack) opperation and filtered air. From my understanding, these are for fighting fires on a contaminated airfield. The SCBA is used when in close and personal with the fire, while the filter is used while in standby in a chemical environment. The one you have appears to be missing the regulator for the SCBA portion of the mask, though that seems to be commonly missing on these. Here are some pics:http://www.mildenhall.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/090722-F-8820I-005.JPG http://www.travis.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/090305-F-3073L-003.jpg You can notice in the second pic that the filter is worn over the shoulder on the back. You can also notice the guys in the background in more traditional chem gear. Hope it helps. Thanks, Dan
