WWI Patches

I purchased a WWI grouping from an estate today. These patches were in the mix. The red chevrons have me confused. They're discharge chevrons but two on the same backer? The top one is dirty and aged. The bottom one looks like new. Thoughts?

Discharge stripes came on a strip to units and they cut them off of strip.

Right, it just seemed odd to me that one soldier would be given two. But that's probably what happened. Nothing should surprise me.

Thanks,

Scott

Really not all that unusual, I've seen them also put the stripe on their shirt, and of course the over coat, but the NCO patches are really nice and these are getting tougher to locate...George

I agree with George. Not to uncommon to see two,but un cut they are a nice variation.

I have an 88th Infantry group from a local vet and he had both a winter and summer weight uniform(s) patched out.He was a Corporal. Both uniforms have rank, collar discs, overseas and discharge stripes
