2ndInf.Div. Posted October 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2013 For awhile now I've been wanting to get a repro Hawley liner, and I'm considering one from Dropzone Helmet Restorations. However, there's one thing that stood out to me that seemed off. The interior looks fine, but does the liner protrude too much on the outside? Maybe it's me, but something just doesn't seem right about it. Has anyone also dealt with Dropzone before? To my knowledge they seem to be a rather new vendor. http://www.dropzonehelmets.com/product/u-s-airborne-infantry-helmet-ww2
minieball Posted October 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2013 I've never seen his repros in person. However, as you pointed out, it does look a bit "off." It appears that the lip is rather thick. Do you know if these are indeed made out of pressed fiber, or are they made from an old shell and reworked? I've seen guys do these with VN liners and cover them with fabric. All in all, I think that this certainly gives you the "look." And, you wouldn't have to beat up an original. Sabrejet Posted October 11, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2013 You need to look at member "Johnny Costino's" products. The thread is current.
BOLO Posted October 11, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 11, 2013 some of the originals were thick like this one, notice the front edge looks similiar to the thickness on the repro liner but the repro looks thick all around
