mmerc20 Posted October 9, 2013 #1 Posted October 9, 2013 I just picked this up yesterday. What an awesome Craigslist find. It was brought back by the man's grandfather along with a katana (that I have not gotten yet). The stock has Meiji 5 (1872) carved in it along with a "registration" number. To my understanding weapons were registered that year and the carving is a product of that. It weighs a hefty 9 pounds and I am currently still trying to determine how old it really is. I have been told it might be early 19th century as well as late 18th. Mike
mmerc20 Posted October 9, 2013 Author #2 Posted October 9, 2013 It is well used and not the highest quality piece. The lock is weak, but still kinda works.
mmerc20 Posted October 9, 2013 Author #3 Posted October 9, 2013 There is copper and brass inlay on the barrel and although this figure is not done well, I think it is unique. Plus, it's a lot better than I could do! While I do like it a lot and it would go well with my collection, I will be sadly finding a new home for it soon. Mike
daniel griffin Posted October 9, 2013 #4 Posted October 9, 2013 Very cool ! , I've never seen a human figure on a matchlock barrel.
