Military Lighters - All eras all brands

Recommended Posts

1968 Zippo from the USS Washtenaw, LST-1166, who was extremely active in the waterways and coast of Vietnam throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. She actually earned 17 battle stars along with several other Presidential, Navy, and Meritorious unit citations for her service in Vietnam. Looks like someone tried their hand decorating the back of it themselves somewhat crudely.

A personalized 1970 aviation unit Zippo from A Company, but no clue as what the actual unit was. This one has the 'wobbly' lettering C6A refers to in earlier posts, but none of the engraving has been darkened/blackened so maybe a good one.

1965 dated? Has just a single dot on the left-hand side as best as I can tell. This one certainly checks all the boxes when it comes to "coolness" factor.

That is a great looking lighter! Any idea of era or location?

Haven’t researched it yet, Siamundo. Thanks for asking. Those are some cool lighters you have there, too! (Had to look up “Shemya” … had never heard of it before. Even our understanding of geography improves with our collecting!)

1967 Zippo Slim from the USS Okinawa. The bluish tint is from the sky. It has virtually no wear and the chrome finish is still so shiny it was difficult to get a decent photo without some type of reflection 😄

This Zenith was probably one of the first Vietnam lighters I picked up back in the mid 1990's. I was so tickled to find it but as the years went by, I realized it was probably a fake. It has all the traits to which C6A previously pointed out-wobbly lettering that has been blackened in.

All very cool, Bulldog and Siamundo! On that Zenith: yeah, I’ve purchased fake Vietnam lighters before. But, those older ones are starting to look pretty cool (as long as we don’t pay those inflated eBay prices we’re good to go!).

I have this lighter and paperwork showing providence, which I think is quite unusual.
