I took a pic of the page from the literature in the box that shows the model numbers and assumed maybe it was pre 1947/8 because the USAF was missing from the list of models.

Always learning, thank you for your insight and feedback

thx

Your base stamp is unique to 1957.  Super clean example.

A Korean War, Japan “Mink” brand lighter.  Interesting USAF unit, the 6167th was an SOS with a succinct, short history.

Thanks for posting those, Goosenheimer! I had to get on the Internet to find out what the 6167th unit did.

Some good sneaky history on that unit.   I like the thoughtfulness of the seam playing the part of the 38th Parallel.  The borders on the lid are red for commies, blue borders on the lighter body for the good guys.

Thanks for that additional information. Honestly, the symbolism on the lighter went right by me until you pointed it out.

What y’all think of this one? Looks suspicious to me

A beauty!  Not..  Poor attempt in my opinion.

So, more on the lighter that Paul2121 posted: The indicators that it is a fake are the paint-filled, wobbly letters. In addition, that fact that the letters are so badly mis-shaped is a big tip-off. Paul, I would suggest you take a look at this thread that is all about Vietnam fakes for further information:

Fantastic enamel job! I really like the color scheme that was chosen and the minute details. Splendid find
