Ricardo Posted January 19, 2007 #1 Posted January 19, 2007 Hi All, Show us the military lighters used in Wars!!! Best regards, Ricardo.
siege1863 Posted January 20, 2007 #2 Posted January 20, 2007 Here you go, Ricardo! This is an Evans "Spitfire" cigarette lighter carried by Cpl. Frederick L. Behm, a member of the HQ battery of the 533rd AAA aw Bn. The inscriptions are hard to read becase the copper base metal has darkened with age. Anyhow, on the front it reads: "Cpl. Behm USA 533 AAA aw BN E.T.O" and on the back: "Africa Sardinia France Germany USA."
gunbarrel Posted January 21, 2007 #3 Posted January 21, 2007 Ricardo, Here is my nicest lighter. It's a presentation piece from the Vietnam War inscribed: PRESENTED TO LT. COL. JOHN B. BLOUT FOR A JOB WELL DONE CREIGHTON W. ABRAMS JR. GENERAL PHONG DINH VIETNAM 1969 1st Air Cav Div On the bottom it says im corona Ballade GAS I understand that Colonel Blount was a Lt. General when he retired. This is a 1970 Zippo. Air Force souvenir from Thailand during the Vietnam War. This is a PARK lighter...not sure of the era.
Guest skeety556 Posted February 23, 2007 #4 Posted February 23, 2007 anyone give me some help getting info on this lighter? Thanks...
screaming-eagle Posted February 24, 2007 #6 Posted February 24, 2007 didn't think the last pic was that bad
jim2 Posted February 24, 2007 #7 Posted February 24, 2007 Here is my unused Dunhill service lighter that came in the original box with instructions.
jim2 Posted February 24, 2007 #8 Posted February 24, 2007 Here is my only other lighter. It is a zippo, I am unsure of the year probably 60's or 70's? It belonged to a Marine named Chuck Webster that served in Japan. Front:
Guest zephyr4 Posted March 16, 2007 #10 Posted March 16, 2007 WW1 trench art table lighter with royal artillery badge attached.
Guest zephyr4 Posted March 16, 2007 #11 Posted March 16, 2007 Vickers Maxim and Son shell turned into lighter.
Bank Vault Posted July 11, 2007 #12 Posted July 11, 2007 nice lighters guys, more pictures of markings would be nice. I have 4 counting the one I had custom made or me with my C.A.P. numbers and squadron on it.
TBMflyer Posted July 12, 2007 #13 Posted July 12, 2007 Non-Zippo but cool 1950's 73rd Troop Carrier Squadron, Ind. ANG. Mark.
34BDQ Posted July 12, 2007 #14 Posted July 12, 2007 Please see this site which has a great deal of information about fake lighters from Vietnam. http://perso.orange.fr/zippo.vietnam/fake.htm Aloha
Bank Vault Posted July 12, 2007 #15 Posted July 12, 2007 untitled.bmpsimply put boys, as a Zippo collector. If the marking on the bottom look stamped wrong or uneven walk away. People think that well it has changed over time they're misprints, and I have to say, I have never seen a bad misprint that ruined the conformity of the stamp. Learn your date codes too. Good example. I attached a fake stamp. Notice the poor quality, remember, Zippos were made to the highest specifications, they were more expensie then any other lighter and carried the famous guarentee. So they did not sell crap and if they did it was one in a million. Remember, for every real Vietnam Zippo, there are 50 repros, for those who didn't know, the ones coming from Vietnam aren't antiques, THEY STILL SHIP HUNDREDS OUT A DAY!!!!
Bank Vault Posted July 12, 2007 #16 Posted July 12, 2007 notice this guy looking through so called Zippos at a shop in Vietnam. Think they're all real? HA. untitled.bmp
Searcher Posted August 11, 2007 #17 Posted August 11, 2007 What about this odd little one. If you have a look at the bottom of the Imco home page you will see this lighter. Looks like I’m missing one wick and the glass vial with spear flint and flint spring. Still a cool lighter that looks good in the pocket of any M43. Cheers Imco home page:- http://www.johnfloresgraphics.com/CLimco.html
Zippo Grunt Posted December 11, 2008 #18 Posted December 11, 2008 A few Vietnam Era Iwo Jima USMC Zippos
37thguy Posted December 13, 2008 #19 Posted December 13, 2008 Here's my example. Made by PARK. Still in new in box and has the paperwork with it. Never been lit. Will never find a better example. Thinking of selling?
Brig Posted December 21, 2008 #22 Posted December 21, 2008 that Chuck Webster lighter I'd date to WWII-Korea based on the EGA design
grenadebaron Posted March 27, 2009 #24 Posted March 27, 2009 The brass one I made for my reenacting weekends. If I should loss it no big loss. The 293th was a Korean War Graves Registration Company
Cobra 6 Actual Posted July 16, 2021 #25 Posted July 16, 2021 There is already a Navy lighters thread, ( USN LIGHTERS Zippo, Penguin, Vulcan, Prince Rocky, Ronson, etc. ) but I didn’t see one for the other services, so I’m going to resurrect this necro-thread for a few days and see if there’s any interest. Any lighter I post is, to my knowledge, authentic. The exception to that would be an occasional non-authentic lighter posted for a specific reason and so noted. If a Zippo lighter then the date stamp on the bottom will be correct for time period, so I won’t bother to post those lighters’ bottoms. Similarly, if there’s no design or lettering on the back of the lighter I won’t post that either. Here goes: Feel free to post pics of your military lighters as well!
