JDK Posted April 30, 2014 #26 Posted April 30, 2014 Very nice photos Dan! I've always been a fan of period photos. Thanks for posting them. JD
38Driver Posted August 21, 2014 Author #27 Posted August 21, 2014 It's been quiet on the pilot photo front. Only one I've come across recently is this one of Lt. Louis Viecks, in his 395th FS, 368th FG, 9th AF P47D "Second Front". Note the relatively rare Malcom Hood on his Jug. Of course the RAF Type C is evident
Backtheattack Posted September 12, 2014 #28 Posted September 12, 2014 Great pics. Think you would like the museum at Kovarska/Czech Republic.
Johnny Signor Posted September 12, 2014 #29 Posted September 12, 2014 Another Jug pilot. His early RAF Type C helmet is interesting to me as I'm not sure what he's covered the receiver cups with. Doesn't look like the usual tape job. You may already know this , the pilot in this photo is wearing the emblem for the 315th Fighter Squadron(2nd version) 1st version of the Squadron patch was Bugs bunny laying on cloud with machine gun , from the 324th Fighter Group. Also you may want to try posting your 'Unknowns" on facebook as they have a couple of P-51/P-47,P-38 etc pages, also on ArmyAirForces.com Johnny
Waltz41 Posted September 23, 2014 #30 Posted September 23, 2014 38driver, hope you don't mind if I add some?? Here's one from 356th FG
Waltz41 Posted September 23, 2014 #31 Posted September 23, 2014 Got the chance to meet Frank E. Speer, from the 4th FG at a Reading WWII Weekend many years ago. He was shot down in May 1944. http://www.mcall.com/news/all-frankspeer-story.html#page=1
flytiger Posted February 21, 2015 #32 Posted February 21, 2015 Super photos! Never thought of collecting those! Seem to have hit everything else though!
phantomfixer Posted February 24, 2015 #33 Posted February 24, 2015 Lt. James Garrison 21st FG Mustang pilot dressed for the part. He flew Mustangs from Iwo Jima on the VLR Missions. I have his B-10 as the pride of my little collection. Nice to see a B5 in the mix too don't see too many wartime pics using this late war life preserver missed your thread on your Type C .....can you give me the link...great story on your helmet....

Schooner Squadron Posted March 18 #37 Posted March 18 Great pics, I love the 405 FG pilots. Thanks for sharing.

Another from the 405th FG I’m not entirely sure of the identity of this particular 405 FG pilot. But the style matches similar photos I have of 405 FG / 509 FS pilots that you previously posted. I will do some digging to see if I can’t ID him. It’s proved difficult in the past since these guys ages ridiculously fast during the war— what they look like in their pre-war portraits vs. what they look like after a few months of combat can be completely different!
