bfryar44 Posted January 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2007 Actually my BAR is a non-firing dummy made from a Ohio Ordnance dummy steel receiver. I replaced the post war parts on it with correct WW2 parts (gas regulator, bipod, and trigger guard assembly). I had the top of the receiver engraved with correct engraving to match the rest of the parts. Finally, the whole gun was reparkerized by my local gunsmith and rubbed it down with some light steel wool to give it that "used but not abused" look.Post your BAR! TJM Posted August 10, 2007 Share #14 Posted August 10, 2007 You have accomplished what I would like to do with my BAR kit. To date I have not found anyone that I am satisfied with to do proper engraving on a dummy receiver. Only checked with a few shops who do name plates etc. for awards. What sort of place did your work?

Greg Robinson Posted August 11, 2007 Share #17 Posted August 11, 2007 I had a chance to buy an original (or so the gunshop claimed) fully operational 1918A2 BAR. This was over ten years ago and it would have cost me $3500 plus whatever it would have cost me to get the proper federal licenses, transfer tax, etc. Been real expensive and I wasn't sure I wanted to subject myself to all that BATF scrutiny. So I passed on it. I'm content to have fired one on a weapons range at Marine Corps base, Camp Geiger, in 1967. Absolutely the MOST fun weapon I fired in the Marine Corps. I can fully understand why several generations of gyrenes loved the BAR. Greg
TJM Posted July 17, 2008 Share #18 Posted July 17, 2008 Bryan, After almost 6 months, Philadelphia Ordnance did another run of dummy BAR receivers. With the receiver now in hand, I am ready to get it properly engraved. At your suggestion, have contacted with Orion but they do not have a template for New England Small Arms. I need to provide the proper text for the markings and currently do not have, or have access to, a copy of "Rock in a Hard Place." Might you be able to post or email me the correct markings or better yet post a photo? Thanks. TJM
