walt323 Posted September 18, 2013 #1 Posted September 18, 2013 I picked this up at a local estate sale. The vets nephew said all he knew about it was that it came back from Europe with his uncle. I don't know much about German helmets but it looks to be a transitional type and I have no idea on the markings. The markings look old and it was cheap so here it is. Any input appreciated.
manayunkman Posted September 18, 2013 #4 Posted September 18, 2013 Hand painted by the German. Are the swastika and words scratched out ? Is that a white swastika on the other side ? 1920's Frei Korps ?
kjones5452 Posted September 18, 2013 #5 Posted September 18, 2013 Red one looks like some kind of sticker that had a swastika cut in it. And I read the top as a messed up try at Afrika and the bottom as Korps. All done by a kids hand to me.

walt323 Posted September 19, 2013 Author #7 Posted September 19, 2013 That is what I was thinking also.Still a neat piece, I hope the kids had fun with it. Next time maybe a Normandy camo.

walt323 Posted September 19, 2013 Author #10 Posted September 19, 2013 There is a white swastika on one side
manayunkman Posted September 19, 2013 #11 Posted September 19, 2013 The white swas is indicative of Frei Korps. Especially a rigid swas. The swastika is original to the helmet.
