It is in McGregor, Iowa. It is actually in what I think was a small park or wayside rest.

 

I looked for this thread today and for the life of me thought I was going bonkers, I SWORE I posted this thread but couldn't locate it again. I had never considered it was a Japanese gun and would thus be moved to this section

 

I figured it was some oddball US thing.

 

I did not see any plaques or veterans monuments or memorials or anything like that near it. I wonder if there used to be something like that nearby in past years tho.

Here in Iowa there tend to be random pieces of military equipment placed in parks. No real rhyme or reason.. no one knows why. There are usually no plaques or info.

 

There is a tank at a park nearby to here.. just sitting there rotting. Gutted inside.

Yeah, like this one in a park alongside Highway 322 in Pennsylvania, just down the hill from my dad's old place in Philipsburg PA - it's been there as long as i can remember with never a sign. I suspect it was placed there to protect against intruders from State College.
