Bullion Spec 4 Chevron

Recommended Posts

Thank's for adding your example Capitano, they indeed are or seem nearly identical, if ever so slight differances, plus can't see the backing/rears of your's obviously to see if that same White material is used. Interesting that on both examples they used a nice Dark Green Twill, the color being very similar to the Army Green Shade 44, not sure if this kind of material was available wholesale in the mid 50s going towards the late 50s, the AG44 uniforms were starting to be made on a limited scale in the mid-ish 50s, I guess they just used a Uniform Twill Material that matched best the background color of the standard U.S. made Specialist rank insignia.

HMM, I wonder if there was other type Background materials used, like Dark Green Wools or Poplins, but as stated these two examples, 36 Tex's pair and your's are so far the only examples seen. Also I wonder if standard EM Rank Cheverons were made in bullion, bullion stripes? Maybe to gaudy right, these Spec ranks seem respectable and in good taste.

I guess this topic will be one of those open topics, in that interested parties can either post similar insignia they bought loose or sewn on a uniform, or post online photos were the type is verifiably being worn.

I did not think anyone would ever find a bullion Specialist 9 chevron but one popped up on eBay. This one must have been made for the old tan uniform. Unfortunately, I was not the successful bidder.

It would of been interesting to handle it, what does everyone think it embroidered on? looks like cardboard

I was the winner of that hard-fought auction. The background is stiff velvet/felt and the reverse is white linen. Same materials as a Japanese-made 1950's era bullion USAF squadron patch I have. The background is white, but age, etc has lightly yellowed it. So, it was for the dress white uniform. A tan uniform of the period would have used a chevron with an AG background (not a tan background.)
