Captainofthe7th Posted September 9, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 9, 2013 No way!! STELLAR find, Mark, I can't believe you found a loose pair of these, congratulations! Rob
36-tex Posted September 9, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted September 9, 2013 Rob, I was thinking of you when I found them! Great pieces at a great price!
patches Posted September 9, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 9, 2013 Very nice find. As these are the smaller 1955 Spec 3 types I bet they were worn on the Ike, something very much in keeping with the garrison dash of the 50s. They are most likely either Asian (South Korean, Japanese) or German made too.
Captainofthe7th Posted September 9, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 9, 2013 I will share my example in light of your comment, patches, but I don't want to hijack Mark's thread. This is only the second pair of these I've ever seen, and believe me I've been looking...maybe not as hard as Mark... I've always been curious to know what the reverse looks like, and seeing these here off of a uniform, the backing looks similar to many Asian made patches. I think these being on an 8th Army Ike reinforces that. The left sleeve has a standard 1st Army patch. The MUC is also identical to others I have on Korean War uniforms. Lee Ragan Posted September 9, 2013 Share #8 Posted September 9, 2013 Yep, ya learn something new almost every day on this forum, even when you started collecting back in the "olden times". These are the first bullion examples of Army Specialist chevrons I have ever seen and I've been collecting chevrons for almost 38 years now. Thanks for showing these. It gives me something new to be looking for.
KurtA Posted September 9, 2013 Share #9 Posted September 9, 2013 Those are really nice. First I have seen also. I have to go with Japanese-made.

X_redcatcher Posted September 9, 2013 Share #12 Posted September 9, 2013 Hi, from the backs and the work that is done on them I would say Japanese made also, one way or another, Nice set,!!
hardstripe Posted September 9, 2013 Share #13 Posted September 9, 2013 36 Tex. Don't know how I overlooked that pair of bullion Specialists chevrons. Anyway, good score. AND it was my pleasure to meet you in person. I scored several bullion chevrons and will attach pictures. One master sergeant chevron looks like it was made from the silver tape used to make WW2 German Army chevrons. Likely made in Germany post war. 36-tex Posted September 9, 2013 Author Share #15 Posted September 9, 2013 Dennis, did you get those at the show? The only other chevrons I saw that I considered were some WWII cloth stripes sewn to an OD back.
hardstripe Posted September 9, 2013 Share #16 Posted September 9, 2013 Yes. This was part of a batch I bought from one of the table helpers. He sold me two batches totaling over 120 chevrons. Most were common but there were a few gems in the mix. He said he saw my banner and hoped I would buy his chevrons. Thanks to my wife for making the banner. I had several people come to me to see if I would buy the chevrons they had and yes I did.

36-tex Posted September 10, 2013 Author Share #21 Posted September 10, 2013 I actually was tipped off by another forum member that these were at the show. Considering where they were located, I must have walked by them a dozen times before buying them.

Rob Ah, I dont think you would be "Highjacking the Thread" Capitano, not when one posts something as germain to a topic insignia item as this, in this case another set of bullion 1950s Specialist Rank Insignia. If we could, can you post close ups of the Spec 2 ranks sewn to this IKE of yours? you know, to compare the Bullion work and background cloth with 36 Tex's pair, we're curious to see just how similar the two sets are.
