Steindaddie Posted April 17, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 17, 2008 Here is an open house at the then new Hahn Air Base in April 1956 (date on back of photos) as photographed by an Air Policeman. The F-86's are of the 417th Fighter Bomber Squadron, Chuck Yeager commanding. The T-33's belong to the 50th FBW Base Flight. These pics were taken just before the 417th was transferred to Toul-Rosieres Air Base in France. These should bring a smile to any Air Forcey guys out there (like me) Will

gorio1961 Posted April 17, 2008 Share #5 Posted April 17, 2008 PS. Hahn Air Base didn't change too much over the years. Neither did Chuck Yeager, here we are in 2002 at Edwards AFB.

gorio1961 Posted April 17, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 17, 2008 Cool pic -- was that taken at the Edwards airshow? It was taken in 2002, when the USAF "dusted off" Chuck yeager to commemorate the opening of that year's airshow. He in fact flew the F-15 in the picture that same day. I was fortunate enough to get his autobiography signed.
JonG Posted April 17, 2008 Share #8 Posted April 17, 2008 You're correct Steindaddie, it didn't change much. I spent 6+ years there and it looked like that when I was there.
Steindaddie Posted April 17, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted April 17, 2008 You're correct Steindaddie, it didn't change much. I spent 6+ years there and it looked like that when I was there. I was stationed at Spangdahlem and Ramstein but made a few stops at Hahn if I were in that neighborhood. With the exception of the addition of TaBVee's, the place really didn't look much different than it did in the 1950's.
