Below are EMERGENCY SERVICE RATINGS used between 1942 to 1955 for enlisted specialists such as these scans below of an open diamond with the letter "A" for Athletic Instructor (1942-1944), "A" Airship Rigger (1948-1955), "B" Master-At-Arms (Shore) (1948-1954), "C" Chief Classification Interviewer (1943-1948), and "C" Classification (1942). These rates came in forestry-green, grey, khaki, navy-blue, and white backgrounds for female and male personnel, like other rates, except these had a specialty mark of an open diamond. There were rates made without an open diamond in which a letter not is use at the moment could be added, there were three letters never used and a few like "CB" Construction Battalon (SeeBees) had two letters, others with two letters were used by the United States Coast Guard such as "PR" for Parachute Rigger, Port Security, etc., and "CW" for Chemical Warfare, etc. thumbsup.gif Sarge Booker ([email protected]) email me if youid like for me to send you scans of these are other rates. I have too many pictures to show here. Thank you!

Below is a "C" for Contruction (1943-1948), probably authorized, but the other three "CB" for Construction Battalion (1942-1944) might not have been authorized? think.gif

Hi Sarge,

Accourding to John A Stacey's book (U.S. NAVY RATING BADGES, SPECIALTY MARKS AND DISTINGUISHING MARKS 1885-1982) C was used for Classification 1942-1942, also Classification INTERVIEWER 1943-1948, also CHAPLAIN'S ASSISTANT 1954-1965.

This OB (ORDNANCE BATTAION) rate is unusual that is was authorized as a striker patch only, that I know of. OB was used 1943-1958.

I've seen a "CB" in a diamond on a WWII Seabees uniform.

New Hampshire Naval State Guard is not an Emergency Service Rating, it was probably made and used between 1918 to the 1930s, perhaps? Q could be for Communications Specialist (1943), or Cryptographer (1943-1948) or Communications Security (1943).

Here is my father just after finishing Boot Camp for the SeaBees at Davisville, Rhode Island. He is wearing the Petty Officer First Class CB patch and I still have it.

Also I posted this patch earlier which I found with some of his things but may well not have been his. Is this one of the Emergency Service Ratings?

Here is the striker you mention. I can find no reference to this being worn as a sleeve rate.

Here are two more:

Specialist E: Recreation/Welfare Assistant (1945), Motion Picture Service (Booking Agent) (1945)

Specialist M: Mail Clerk and Fleet Mail Clerk (1942 thru 1944) I would think this one is somewhat hard to find since it only lasted two years before being replaced by the "Mailman" rate.

Here are two types of CB (SeeBee - Construction Battalion) marks with and without an open diamond on grey cloth, separate from the rate itself. pinch.gif
