Hey guys,

It seems this medal is using a slot broach, with a crimp? Have any of you seen this before?

This configuration was used after the war on some medals in an attempt to use the supply of slot brooches still in inventory before the military switched to the full crimp brooch

Here is a Berlin Airlift Medal using the same slot brooch top plate inside the crimp style brooch. This combination of brooch styles is documented in "The Call of Duty - Military Awards and Decorations of the United States of America" by LTC John E. Strandberg and Roger James Bender in the chapter on suspension brooch styles.

Thanks for the info!

For nailing down an approximate date of manufacture, was there a general timeframe this method was practiced, then discontinued?

Rob.

No idea on the time frame but it was used on the commendation medals as well and they came out in medal form in 1960? I think
