1stCav Posted August 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2013 I'm trying to put together an 117th IR 30th ID impression and was wondering what cold weather gear is needed? I'll be using the M41 jacket with wools. Also I was wondering when the 30th ID issued the M43 uniform? I've tried searching but couldn't find anything on it
mpguy80/08 Posted August 27, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2013 Most references state that by February of 1945, most units had been issued the M1943 uniforms. Before that just about anything is fair game as far as cold weather gear goes. Soldiers grabbed up whatever they could get their hands on... Melton Overcoats, Mackinaw coats, Alpaca Lined parkas... Some soldiers used the M1944 field (Ike) jacket as a liner under their M1941's even. It was the cold snap in December of 1944 that really brought to light how severe the cold weather clothing situation was for the Army. If you have photos, use them as a guide, but in the Ardenne sector at least, Soldiers used whatever they could get their hands on.
