doinworkinvans Posted August 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2013 Was Dobbs 5th Ave New York a Crusher maker during WW2? Is there a reference page for these? Thanks!
Sabrejet Posted August 15, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2013 Pretty much every "good" men's tailor shop sold uniforms and accessories during WW2...it was big business! Personally, I don't recall the brand, but I don't doubt that they probably sold visor hats to both officers and men. ( Be mindful of the term "crusher" which is routinely and erroneously applied to almost any visor hat which has had its crown stiffener removed. A true crusher has a soft crown and a soft leather bill. Perhaps the best known brand is the Bancroft "Flighter".)
MattS Posted August 16, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 16, 2013 This is a decent reference page for different makers of crushers: http://www.acmedepot.com/keepemflying/crusher.shtml
DKNYC71 Posted September 4, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 4, 2013 ABSOLUTE:Y, anyone who knows anything about crusher caps and AAF uniforms, would know that it was one of the more popular crushers brands out there, but DOBBS also made regular officer caps, so make sure it is a "true crusher", and not just a soft bill visor cap. Post images here if you need a confirmation.
