tarbridge Posted July 18, 2014 Author Share #26 Posted July 18, 2014 Sure, all plausible. With items like these you're not only seeing (most importantly) memorials to lost servicemen, but also clues as to how the government processed what must have been an enormous amount of requests. Sobering. I have had Navy issued Purple Heart certificate, accolade, Purple Heart and letters from the USN that they were sending the group to the family...it was 1952... KASTAUFFER Posted July 25, 2014 Share #27 Posted July 25, 2014 I am a firm believer that it is the engraving style that dictates when medals are issued. Obviously you won't see fancy engraving on a type III medal, but both of these have the plain straight line engraving typical of the 1946-7 time period. I have a type 1 medal with plain engraving like these examples. The type 1 medal I have with plain engraving was issued in 1946. Kurt
