woodsman Posted July 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2013 We were out for exploration in an old WWII bunker in France last weekend and found some writings on the wall, that were made by U.S. soliders back then in 1944 and 1945. They left their names and origin there. I thought it would be nice to photograph them and post the pics here for the search engines, maybe someone will g**gle for their grandfathers names and then will be able to find it. PM me for more info. Cheers TOM BLAKECUMBERLAND MARYLAND USAOct 28 44JOHN ELCOPHILADELPHIA PENNSYLVANIA USA10-28-44ROBERT C. woodsman Posted August 24, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted August 24, 2013 Found some more, about 10km north of the town of Thionville, Lorraine, in a very small flanking bunker with just 2 pill-boxes for machine gun fire and a couple of rooms beneath surface. NOV 11 1944, MIKE SKOWRONSKI, CHICAGO and VINCENT KOLECKI, PHILA PA. very interesting, seems like signatures from troops in bunkers are very common, if you take a closer look. m1ashooter Posted October 24, 2013 Share #15 Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks for the postings. How come the bunkers are in great shape?
woodsman Posted November 5, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted November 5, 2013 actually most of the abandoned bunkers are in a pretty bad shape. humidity everywhere, all remaining metals are rusty, concrete stairs begin to crumble away, even some bunkers are partly flooded by groundwater. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maginot

woodsman Posted August 2, 2014 Author Share #18 Posted August 2, 2014 We visited another huge WWII bunker this week and found some more signatures dated back in 1945.I had the feeling, that these soliders had put their names up their to the walls to be recognized and not to be forgotten in the future, so I think its a good thing to post them here, aslong as this thread has become some kind of a small documentary. =)Unfortunately most of the signatures were crossed with graffiti and became unredable, but a few were still clear and here they are.And if any admin is reading this, please change my status, I want to be able to post at the TRADE/WANTED section on this forum. Jeeper704 Posted August 2, 2014 Share #20 Posted August 2, 2014 501 ORD HAM CO stands for 501st Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company. This guy could be a tank mechanic/repairman or a heavy truck driver who hauled damaged and knocked out tanks from the battlefield. Erwin
