Collection and The Man Room

Recommended Posts

Years ago when I was in college I took whatever little extra money I had and collected U.S. militaria. I was able to get a room in my parent's huge victorian home to display my collection. That was about 8-10 years ago. For the last 5 years or so the collection has been boxed up and packed away. I thought about selling it a couple times but never followed through. I'm glad I didn't.

Here is the display room around 9 years ago in different states of assembly:

Also, a display I put together for a nursing home:

Fast forward to today, I've a good job, recently married, and bought a house just over a month ago. The wife let me have a temporary man room in the future baby room and I'm currently working on it. No pics yet, but it's coming right along. Pics when it's finished.

Thank you, guys!

Finally, pretty much finished. I'll be adding some dark curtains to keep out the damaging sunlight.

I intend this room to be a place or relaxation for myself and my friends. Some of the pics aren't great, the lighting wasn't the best and shooting items behind glass is tough.

Enjoy.

Not 100% historically accurate (rusted-out postwar helmet I stripped, repainted, and presented to my grandpa before his death; postwar bandoleer, etc.) but not a bad example of a Normandy infantryman. His HBT pants and shirt are repros that were used in the filming of "Saving Private Ryan".

The Great White Fleet.

Top is a 'last ditch' Japanese bayonet, middle is a '43 dated German bayonet, and the bottom is a battle damaged WW1 German sawback bayonet that is unit marked.

The 'coffee table'. I normally have plexiglas on top to protect the finish.

An original USAAF photo. Here's the story on this photo: the front bomber was hit by flak and the mortally wounded bombardier prematurely released his bombs.

The HBT pants are of the incorrect post-war style.

Notice the British-made garrison boots (with hobnails and heel irons) that were converted to M43 style boots.
