Fake Uniforms and Hats to Patton, Eaker, Pyle, Stewart, and more.

Recommended Posts

I saw this on ebay yesterday and wanted to bring it to the forum. I'm not sure if it is real or was conveniently stamped with his name. The seller does not list any provenance. Any thoughts?....

The seller can't even get it right that Gen. Eaker was a proponent of precision daylight bombing, NOT carpet bombing.

I'd want more documentation as to this being owned by Gen. Eaker. Anyone could have stamped his name in the sweatband.

My feelings as well. Though the Bombing of Dresden and some of the further "transportation bombings" in Germany towards the end of the war got close to carpet style bombings. But I don't think that is what the seller meant by his notation.

Most of the items he was listed are fakes or seriously altered. JKF's hat and jacket, Maxwell Taylor ike jacket. The London Tower Guard is supposed to be circa 1901 but the crown is a King's crown and the initials are ER for Queen Elizabeth and so on.

This has been offered several times over the last few months. Apparently collectors are getting smarter because he never seems to get any bids on it. My fear is that a newbie to collecting and to Ebay will bid and actually win this fake.

I had to look at the JFK naval uniform, which is a blank Lt(JG)s coat with an added stamping. He could have at least used a WW2 vintage cap, that is one of the 50th Anniversary Bancrofts from the 1950s. For only $265K, it's a real bargain.

This was my favorite of his listings! A size 39 Short jacket, supposedly worn by a man who was 6 feet tall???? For the amount of effort they put into the paperwork, etc and the money they are asking, one would think they would have done a better job with this and many of their other dubious offerings.

Roger Steffen had a fairly decent reputation as a dealer in 1980's-90's. I suspect he would not put his reputation on the line for a reproduction of a piece of this price and quality.
