m1a2u2 Posted July 4, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2013 Is this the real deal or an Army modified fake. The stamps look too clean but maybe it was just kept well. I think from looking at Alec's book that the "U.S.M.C." may be placed too low on the flap. However, I think he only has pictures of 1911 ones in his book so maybe the 1912 ones were placed higher up. Also I think the Army ones have a leather string to close the meatcan pouch unlike the Marine one. What do you guys think? I know Alec must have an idea. Thanks! m1a2u2 Posted July 4, 2013 Author Share #2 Posted July 4, 2013 Based on a closer inspection of how the stamp blends with the stains, I am more convinced it's the real deal. Also I noticed in Alec's book that the blanket bags have the "USMC" stamp at different positions in different years of production.
Alec Posted July 4, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2013 Looks good to me as well. A good early depot made item.

turmanator Posted July 4, 2013 Share #8 Posted July 4, 2013 Since everybody thinks it's good and everybody pretty much is better than I am at it, what do you think of the white dot wear spots on the magnification of the stampings. Is that normal, natural wear patterings or possible sandpapering? like I said, I am trying to learn so pleased don't poke fun at me!!

I never made a fake myself so I couldn't tell you for sure. I think they liquid stains are more telling as to its authenticity. I will be able to tell more when it arrives in the mail.
