USMC-RECON0321 Posted July 3, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2013 Hello, I put my best foot forward to win this great named helmet liner today, but it wasn't good enough! Anyway, while researching the name inside the helmet liner while the auction was still active, I did ID the vet and also found his Uniform and silver star medal grouping for sale by a military dealer. I thought it would be great to put the two back together again, but I didn't win the liner, so I didn't buy the uniform / medal grouping. I don't think the two sellers know about one another?? Anyway, I was hoping someone here or on APF won the liner and if so, PM me and I'll link you up with his uniform grouping if you're interested. I would hope someone would do the same for me if the shoe was on the other foot. ThanksTroy Here is a link to the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111108177986?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 USMC 2/2 Fox Co 0311 & 1st Recon Bn Delta Co. 0321. 1986 - 1995 (Desert Storm 90/91)US Army Long Range Surveillance Co F 425th INF ABN LRS Team 1-6 2003 - 2005 (Iraqi Freedom 03/04)

jasonm Posted July 3, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 3, 2013 Well I was runner up on the bidding. My plans were to reunite the group as well. I hope that you are able to put it all together Mat. Congrats on the score. The 87th also has the 345the battle history on there as well. Lt. Barlows name surfaces under decorations toward the back. Also, here is a nice obit with a photo as well: http://obits.cleveland.com/obituaries/cleveland/obituary.aspx?n=sterling-r-barlow&pid=157492986&fhid=2661#fbLoggedOut I look forward to seeing it all put together. USMC-RECON0321 Posted July 3, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted July 3, 2013 Well it seems we were all detectives on this one!! Again, glad it was a battle won by a fellow forum member! It sure is nice when there is enough of an ID on a piece of military gear to positively ID its history. Could you imagine if all it said inside was LT. SRB? You could still probably make the connections after tons of research, but could never be 100%. Again,,, GREAT LINER AND SOLDIER!! Hank Posted July 4, 2013 Share #10 Posted July 4, 2013 Great Find! But I have to add to your information. Barlow was from the Cleveland Ohio area and a number of years ago went to his estate sale where I picked up a number of items that belonged to him. Items such as his trunk, M-43 field jacket, rain coat, Ike jacket, shirts and trousers, boots, in all about twenty-five items.

Hank Posted July 6, 2013 Share #15 Posted July 6, 2013 Hi Mat Yes, I still have all those items, it's a nice grouping from one guy. As I mentioned the trunk contains a ike jacket with his two patches (the 83rd and 87th), trousers and shirts (OD and khaki), sweater, "radar" cap, rain coat, field jacket, buckle boots and cavalry style high boots, socks of various height and winter underwear, maps, khaki and "sateen" uniforms from the fifties (his reserve days), and small miscellaneous items. Plus, a very early helmet liner (named) with 87th and "fulge" insignia (same as on the unit pins on the uniform), the liner edge is painted with a red and blue edge. Hopefully today I can take photos and send them to you. h
