Nathan said it exactly right.

I remember once how some native Central American tribes folks were antagonizing Mel Gibson for his movie Apocalipto and how they perceived the brutality to be in their opinion over the top. Go figure on that one!!!... They went on and on, until finally Mel finally told them essentially to F*&^% off and to go make their own movie. Film is intellectual property. It is the choice of the film makers as to how big a role technical and historical accuracy will play. Some want a high degree of accuracy and some don't particularly care. But rest assured, the first thing that will always be sacrificed for sake of money making ability and "wow" factor of the story line will be the accuracy. Just accept that part and you'll be able to sit through it and enjoy the popcorn.

Heck! I'm writing a movie around the viral phenomena "Slenderman". The prologue takes place in Oct, 1944 near Aachen... I don't think Slenderman would be considered "historically accurate" to ww2, but my vision, my choice!

Fingers...there's such a thing as "the cutting room floor". Much of what you find visually "offensive" will doubtless end up there, so don't beat yourself up over it. Chill!

Just ask someone who knows space history what they think of "The Right Stuff," or "Apollo 13."

Neither are very accurate (Right stuff was more satire than anything), but both were very entertaining.

THAT is the bottom line.

The only thing the gripers have a good point on is how historical movies are now often billed as 'the way it really was,' and I think that fuels the 'you got it wrong' debates needlessly...

It should be fine as long as Slenderman doesn't have a 5 cell pouch with a german bread bag strap

If I had a nickel for every time an Asian based company on ebay claimed their uniform and equipment products were "just like original" I could retire!!! What??? You mean not all repro stuff is made the same???????????????????? You mean we actually do have to educate ourselves!!!!!!!!!!!????????????? DOH!!!

Here's a tip...Don't drink the kool-aid they hand you!!!! Educate yourself and you'll never be disappointed. Movies are not made to be documentaries, just entertainment for the masses. Accuracy is great and should be pursued but should never be the end all. One could even suggest that accuracy for it's own sake can be a form of creativity censorship. (Oh boy. What have I done now.)

FWIW, there will always be kooks that watch movies and think it is reality. I was at Rockford, IL a few weeks ago when I was enlightened about how they had to tighten security at the event due to folks "wondering" into the public battle that weren't even reenactors. They are psychos out there bent on fornicating with their dreams. One guy stepped into the public battle dressed as Captain America and had to escorted off the field. I couldn't restrain my chuckle at that one!!

I was with Rob the day they finished the crates and were shipping them out.I was also watching him hand stamp and stencil each piece. I can say that it was a amazing site seeing all the tubes, crates, dummy ammo etc., sitting around. You kind of forgot it 2013....

Do people still enjoy Shakespeare on stage because of the props, or because of the characters and words?

Did no tankers ever use M44 goggles? Or is a reenactor preference to go with other models?

Was the 5 cell Thompson pouch not issued in the ETO? I'm confused how this is inaccurate.

GIs looted, used, stole, wore a pleathora of German weapons, uniform items and euipment. Or not?

we're GI's---if we see a piece of enemy gear we like, we will take it and either use it, send it home or sell it to another GI. i know we did that in vietnam, and i would be very surprised if it wasn't equally common in 1944. that's half the reason VC booby trapped stuff---they knew darn well we would try and get it.

The 1944 goggles aren't seen in photos until the last weeks of the war. Prior to that they just aren't seen. The 5 cell TSMG pouch isn't very common itself, but seen being worn hanging by a German Bread bag strap, I'd have to say would be very unusual. The guys I know who've been to the set say it's going to be a good one, and even a poor movie can have some good scenes. So I'm reserving judgement.

I can understand the need to safe guard forum members against scams, but 50 posts. I dont post on here very regularily due to not being a large collector, but a re-enactor I use the website for reference. I have sometimes wanted to post wanted adds to add to my collection or have had some items that I think that the community maybe interested in, but have been stopped due to the fact I have under 50 posts. I am a very active member of 2 UK forums but do not want to waste peoples time on here by posting random tat just to get myself up to 50 posts.

Anything I can do?

Cheers, Jon

Infantry men use tanker jacket, officiers use paratrooper boots,..... The reality was never like in TM and rules....
