yp221 Posted June 26, 2013 Share #26 Posted June 26, 2013 I don't know much about Vietnam era helmets, but here is a USMC helmet with para liner that was worn by a distant relative (mother's cousin's husband) in Vietnam. He passed away when I was very young so I don't know much about him besides he was a Marine and was in Vietnam. The helmet is just as I received it in 1994. The steel pot is a fixed bail with cork intact and dark green repaint. One bail is gone and the other is broken but present. The cover is greasy and ripped, the rust stains on the cover correspond perfectly to rusted areas of the pot. The steel shell has 3 bullet holes and possibly shrapnel that damaged the liner as well. When the damage was sustained can only be speculated. If anyone wants I can try to post more, and better, pictures of it.

yp221 Posted June 26, 2013 Share #29 Posted June 26, 2013 Nice helmet, do you know what time frame it was used? Not really sure. From what I understand he was back in the U.S. and discharged by late 1968. I wish i knew more info.

The Rooster Posted June 20, 2020 Share #31 Posted June 20, 2020 Here is a WW2 Front seam McCord and a Capac 1951 Para liner repurposed for the vietnam era. The shell has the vietnam sand paint and the tape in the liner Matches up to adhesive stains on the outside of the shell. The snaps on the liner have pulled out of the liner and are stuck to the aircorne snaps on the steel shells chinstraps. Dont know if it was used in Vietnam? The shell chnstraps and the liner sweat band and the shell paint are Vietnam era.
