patches Posted July 9, 2013 Share #26 Posted July 9, 2013 I was curious about the subject in question, so I looked and found this on him, he has his own Wiki, CO of the 28th FA BN, 8th Inf Div. With your kind consent, allow me to post this about your Uncle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_J._Chesarek

Cannoncocker155mm Posted July 9, 2013 Share #28 Posted July 9, 2013 Outstanding work. Really like it, wish i had the time and skill to make something like this, I'm ok painting my 155 but not got the patience to paint a 1.35 scale model Looking forward to seeing the final result. Ches-Gen-4 Posted July 9, 2013 Author Share #29 Posted July 9, 2013 Thanks for the complements Stuart. Any time you get tired lugging that big gun around, I'll trade you a nice, lighter, much easier to transport model. Bob

Ches-Gen-4 Posted July 12, 2013 Author Share #32 Posted July 12, 2013 Started working on the diorama scenery base tonight. There is a groove cut around the outer edge of the plywood base for the glass / acrylic (haven't decided yet) cover to protect the models from dust. I will try to use natural elements for the ground cover and rocks if possible. This is where things get interesting. Bob
Ches-Gen-4 Posted July 20, 2013 Author Share #33 Posted July 20, 2013 The project is continuing and I have been working on the base for the diorama. Durhams water putty was used to coat the wood forms and several shades of earth tone Acrylic paints have been used to paint the dried water putty. In this photo I have set the models in place to take a few photos and just get a feel for the scene. Bob

Jeeper704 Posted July 21, 2013 Share #38 Posted July 21, 2013 Really curious for the end result as it already is very interesting. I like "things that go boom" in scale. Erwin
mpguy80/08 Posted July 21, 2013 Share #39 Posted July 21, 2013 I can build models all day long, but by far my favorite projects are ones that hold personal significance... especially a father's or grandfather's vehicle, plane or ship from a past conflict. I built my father's LST once... vehicles I've crewed in my career... most of which have been lost to my many moves in the military. Now that I'm retired and own my own home, I can get back to building them again.
Ches-Gen-4 Posted July 26, 2013 Author Share #40 Posted July 26, 2013 Greenery added to Diorama! The scenery is about finished for my little diorama. I used a combination of Woodland Scenic products & Heki Wildgrass mat as well as real dirt from behind the house. I was not able to find very many materials around my property that looked good in scale. The next phase is adding the models and accessories, that will really bring the scene to life! Thanks for following along. Bob
