cerick1450 Posted June 19, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2013 Hi I recently picked up a Jeep hat from a ww2 vets estate. I have included a few pictures. The tag has been removed. Is there any way to tell if it is WW2 era? Thanks Charlie
BriansBricks Posted June 19, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2013 I can't see the top of the hat, but here are a couple photos of Jeep Caps from the reference section

Bellumbill Posted June 19, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2013 Looks too "fuzzy" to me to be an original. Best, Bill K.
SEAL76 Posted June 20, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 20, 2013 I had the real deal as a teenager and young adult. It looked different than this one,
rambob Posted June 20, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 20, 2013 I have two of these caps, that I just looked at for reference and the seams at the top are different from your example. FYI. The stiffener material inside the brim on originals is thick cardboard, while the repops use plastic. Slightly bend the brim on your cap to see if it feels like springy plastic or a more bendable cardboard. The knitting also looks too loose and the yarn too "fuzzy", as stated before, for this to be original. The reference pictures posted are exactly like the two caps I own. Sabrejet Posted June 20, 2013 Share #7 Posted June 20, 2013 Looks like a modern-made commercial example to me for all of the reasons Rambob gives above.
