teufelhunde.ret Posted June 19, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2013 These plates, with that emblem, were worn from 1892 to 1904 . And not always an easy task to ID to the period of use, because of Bannerman Surplus, Stoke Kirk, etc. These folks and others continued to sell war surplus and their reproductions of period insignias into the 1950s. While the construction and assembly looks original to the era of use, the lack of any wear or patina speaks otherwise to me...
ChuckyD Posted June 20, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted June 20, 2013 Well, I hope it's real!! Actually, I believe it is. I got it from Mike Manifor!!
Leatherneck72 Posted June 20, 2013 Share #7 Posted June 20, 2013 There is no question on this one. The solder looks 100 years old, and placement is correct for use on the enlisted shako, has the correct gold gilt finish, and the correct EGA. This was not one of the Bannerman souvenir board ones. usmcaviator Posted June 22, 2013 Share #11 Posted June 22, 2013 Chuck, Its all cool, looks like you probably stored them off my site and just made a mistake when selecting the shots of which one was yours. You can see that one has more of a brassy appearance. Both nice examples! Mike
