Marshallj Posted January 5 Share #957 Posted January 5 I must confess I have never seen this film until today. I was intrigued when I read the synopsis. It will be easy to figure out the film if you Google the stars. Of course the youngsters may not recognize any of the stars. The setting is post WW2. The Cold War. I think this 1958 version of Dunkirk is the best of all or any Dunkirk related films, other than documentaries with original footage, another two versions of Dunkirk were released in 2017 but neither compare. A lot of the actors involved in the 1958 version fought during WWII and brought their experiences and training to the film. My uncle escaped from Dunkirk I regret in the 1970's that I never took him back to relate his experiences and places he fought through, I left it too late. regards lewis. ... The 2017 version was awful. Even Mrs. Miniver was better.

BeansEnHay Posted February 24 Share #968 Posted February 24 This looks like John Wayne in “The Longest Day”. He played 82nd Airborne commander (I think) who broke his leg in the jump. He tells the medic in very John Wayne voice to lace his boot up “Tight ! “ and carry’s on with the days work. Also a great book/read by Cornelius Ryan.
