Well, what y'all think this will go for?

Recommended Posts

:o ???? some people think way to much of their stuff :wacko:.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. The US military produced some 22,000,000 M1s during WW2 and #21,999,999 was pretty much like #1, apart from the relatively minor details which so fascinate we collectors. On a shelf with a bunch of other WW2 M1s, like we see on this forum daily, this one would not stand out as a particularly exceptional example, IMHO. "Emperor's new clothes" syndrome at work!!

maybe...nothing... :dry::excl:

In all honesty, that's kind of what I figure. Get it for nothing and try and make a mint off it. It makes the history guy in me cringe. I know that money comes first in this game, but I hate it.

Not saying this is fake but couldn't someone easily fake the stamp? They just make a stamp and lightly stamp the cover and possibly age it...

Yes believe he is just showing it off.. I doubt it will get a bid unless they really really want it and have a load of cash jut sitting around.

It's just a basic F/B M1 with a marked cover. The real "worth" is in the cover...assuming it's 100% original? But... nowhere near the $4K price tag! :o

Yes he was. The seller: truthtonbay was the subject of a discussion on the APF about this helmet: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-WWII-US-AMERICAN-M1-FIXED-BAIL-FONT-SEAM-HELMET-INLAND-LINER-/281118825461?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4173fcdbf5 which is still for sale.

The seller chose to make threats rather than explain how he came into possession of this helmet. This helmet was sold by a member here on the USMF and the APF. It was claimed by the buyer that he had not received it, the buyer then got his money back and now the (assumed)buyer is selling the same helmet which was claimed to have not been delivered. I hope this all just made sense.

Weren't there some issues with this seller on a previous helmet?

So if I follow you, he claimed that the item never arrived and received a refund. He is now trying to sell the helmet he claimed not to have received, what a lowlife.

If the seller had simply replied to the other member in a normal way, this would be a non-issue. However his reaction to the line of questioning speaks volumes about this seller. IMO he can keep his ill-gotten goods and even if this UNIS marked helmet had a BIN of 500 I would not touch it. Also, check out his rare original M16 camo...lol.

I had the old "I never got it" pulled on me a lot on eBay. not so much state side as state side tracking is cheap but outside the US its a real problem. they will ask for cheap mail which is untracked and then say they never got it. then paypal will refund them the $$$ and they will resell the item. I always knew when I was about too get hit because they would start asking were there item was 2 days after it shipped or just blind side me with a paypal claim. I no longer offer over seas shipping on eBay for that very reason. however I do still sell and ship to people I trust or have sold to before. paypal and ebay don't seem to care at all. kind of off subject I know but its something that was driving me crazy a year ago and it has to do with the whole getting stuck by paypal thing.

P.S. just a heads up, if the seller ships the item tracked no one can claim "I never got it" so someone could end up out of some $$$ but someone can say the seller mailed them a rock and paypal will probably refund someone the $$$ and when the seller says they did not mail a rock they will probably give the seller a refund as well under seller protection. if that is not the dumbest thing I have ever seen I don't know what is.

Gentleman, I removed several posts which were not pertinent to this conversation, nor to this helmet, nor to this seller. If anyone has a problem with the way something is handled on another thread, bringing it up in this thread, which is unassociated with the other, is an improper way to do it. Lets stay on topic.

Back to the helmet itself: is the "greenish" re-paint on this pot a known WWII USMC addition? I have about 8 purported USMC M1s and two of them sport this same shade of green re-paint under the camo cover. Both those two helmets had authentic camo covers and were bought from two different sellers years apart (one for $30 at the SOS in 2008).
