blackhawkdown Posted June 4, 2013 #1 Posted June 4, 2013 I purchased this flag at the Kansas City military show several years ago. The cool thing is that there is a photo of the vet with the flag and the Russians that I assume he got it from. The dealer said he would get me more info on the vet but never did. I am attempting to re-contact him to ask if he still has the info. Anyone read Russian and can translate the flag? Dan h
ww2relichunter Posted June 4, 2013 #5 Posted June 4, 2013 hmmm very cool it is not everyday you see a captured soviet flag as we really didn't actually fight physical in a war with the soviets !!
blackhawkdown Posted June 4, 2013 Author #6 Posted June 4, 2013 I have never run across any US soldiers that had any Russian bring backs. I think its pretty cool. Dan h
easterneagle87 Posted June 9, 2013 #8 Posted June 9, 2013 With the photo evidence, makes this a cool piece!
TRR Posted June 9, 2013 #9 Posted June 9, 2013 Pretty cool bringback with the photo as well. Thanks for sharing, hope you are able to get some more info.
Dave Posted June 10, 2013 #10 Posted June 10, 2013 That is very cool. It's a rather odd flag...it's not a unit flag (unless there's something on the back, but I assume there's nothing since there are no photos of it). I've owned a lot of Soviet flags before, but this one is one I'm not familiar with. Quite interesting and the photo really "makes" it!
ludwigh1980 Posted June 10, 2013 #11 Posted June 10, 2013 Very interesting piece. Where provinance and photographic evidence changes everything. Thanks for posting!
ColdWarRules Posted June 14, 2013 #12 Posted June 14, 2013 I can give you the pronunciation, not the exact translation (I am proficient in Russian but my vocabulary is not this advanced). The pronunciation is based off of the letters and the sounds they make when read. Prolataree Vseh Stran Soednyaetes (first word is proletariat).
Dave Posted June 14, 2013 #13 Posted June 14, 2013 I can give you the pronunciation, not the exact translation (I am proficient in Russian but my vocabulary is not this advanced). The pronunciation is based off of the letters and the sounds they make when read. Prolataree Vseh Stran Soednyaetes (first word is proletariat). Which translates to: "Workers of the world, unite!" The slogan of communism...
Pogranichnik92 Posted November 21, 2013 #14 Posted November 21, 2013 It's not a unit flag, it's a civilian Labour Flag. As was already stated the first word is "Proletariat" which gives it away, even if you don't know what the rest of it says. Most likely just something a Soldat had and didn't feel he would be reprimanded for being traded off.
Dave Posted November 21, 2013 #15 Posted November 21, 2013 As was already stated the first word is "Proletariat" which gives it away, even if you don't know what the rest of it says. Not always...plenty of military flags had the same slogan on them...see below (from my former collection)...
