Went to a local auction and this was there.Wasnt advertised but still had one fairly serious bidder. The liner is a nice transitional one with rayon webbing and a first pattern type riveted chin strap with open face buckle. The helmet is a Navy grey with SMITTY in white paint.Few stress cracks in the shell but over all a unmessed with helmet.I knew the owner of the items and he was an avid auction goer for years,He passed away a few months ago and his family is selling off his varied accumulation. He was an airforce vet and very actice in the local legion.Im sure this helmet was a auction find for him and the rest of the story is lost to time

Great set Ron, the artwork on both shell and liner is very nice and not to mention the complete transitional liner.

Ron,

Great helmet set pick up!! I would think it would be a good guess your guy had the last name of "Smith", as every Smith I've known goes by "Smitty". Should be an easy name to research, couldn't be to many of those in the military in WWII. Lol...

Again, congrats on a grear lid!!!

That's quite a unique lid you have there Ron. Great score!
