hhbooker2 Posted May 29, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 29, 2013 GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS! Between 1951 and 1957 it is told that due to a limited number of chevrons in the supply room, soldiers were issued very few pairs and had them attached to thin brass metal frame with safety-pins to attached to their uniform shirts and remove them before they were washed, it also helped delay the wearing out of these chevrons. These were the type issued after the withdrawal of the two-inch wide "Mammie Eisenhower" chevrons of 1948 to 1951. These were worn until December 31st, 1959 when replaced by the AG44 Green chevrons with yellow designs. Sorry for the poor quality of the scans attached here! When I got to Korea in March 1960, these were gone except for a few left in the P.X. at Camp Casey, relics of the past! Katusas (Koreans attached to the U.S.Army) wore their chevrons on their left pocket flap which were thin painted brass metal with attached screw and nut. I wonder if anyone out there remembers seeing these ranks? Please share your information and better yet, any photos or drawinmgs too, thanks a million! hardstripe Posted May 29, 2013 Share #3 Posted May 29, 2013 I have a few of these in my collection. I always thought they were acting NCOs. Your post seems to clear that up. I will most a few more later.
