WWIIEnthusiast123 Posted May 29, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 29, 2013 Hello, So I finally found a picture of my hero/grandfather in his millitary uniform. He died a year ago after a long happy life. He was unspoken about his experiences in WWII, having suffered PTSD after living through Omaha Beach, the Hedgerows, St. Lo, the Battle of the Bulge etc. unlike most of his friends sadly. He did not mention specifics about his training or units so I was intrigued when I saw the patch on his arm. However, I cannot find what it belongs to for the life of me so help would be MUCH appreciated. We know he was trained at some point in time as a tank destroying specialist, or received tank destroying training. He was also trained by rangers for some reason but was not a member of the rangers. In addition he was with Patton's unit during the bulge and obviously one of the Army units that landed on Omaha beach, most likely the 1st Army. To me it looks like either an Eagle or a cannon, but I promise I have looked everywhere and still have no idea. If anyone has a clue please comment, I would love to find out more about his service. Thank you! http://www.flickr.com/photos/bootprints/8875038207/

gomorgan Posted June 1, 2013 Share #9 Posted June 1, 2013 That is quite a military record for a ASTP guy, most were taken out of program in 44 and thrown in as replacements to make up the summer losses. I know of three I spoke to all same story, replacements to high number Infantry Div. 99th 104th
