navrocky Posted May 28, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 28, 2013 I want to buy the DVD MIDWAY but am a bit hesitant for fear it is an inaccurate and hurried portrayal of the real event. Can someone please give me a review and tell me of its accuracy and attention to detailed history or is it just a "Hollywoodized" version of this epic event. Thanks for the responses

Jack's Son Posted May 28, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 28, 2013 I watch the movie every time that it is on the tube. I really like the characters, acting and action.
wolfman Posted May 29, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 29, 2013 Its not as bad as some people make it out to be its at the very least worth a watch
panzerbait Posted May 29, 2013 Share #6 Posted May 29, 2013 For a Hollywood production it's actualy fairly good. They used quite a bit of original color footage from the period, and it shows because a lot of it is post Midway with inaccurate aircraft, etc., but overall it was a good movie for the time it was made. And I stop flipping through the channels and watch it if it's on too!
RustyCanteen Posted May 29, 2013 Share #7 Posted May 29, 2013 It's worth watching. I wouldn't say it's exactly the way it happened, but it's still entertaining.
Mach Posted May 30, 2013 Share #8 Posted May 30, 2013 There are some nice PBY's and Wildcat's in it, then stock footage of Hellcats fighting etc. There was talk of a new film about the Battle of Midway in 3D: http://screenrant.com/battle-of-midway-movie-3d-robf-76123/ Also for Battle of Midway value - Wing and a Prayer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_and_a_Prayer
RustyCanteen Posted September 26, 2017 Share #9 Posted September 26, 2017 Looking at the IMDB, It appears a new movie about the Battle of Midway is in pre-production, to be directed by Roland Emmerich. It sounds interesting, and the battle (especially the aviation scenes) could really benefit from modern CGI and effects techniques. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6924650/?ref_=adv_li_tt
