Sabrejet Posted May 27, 2013 Share #30 Posted May 27, 2013 Do you always have them out on display like so, or is there a requirement for them to be locked away securely? ( I only ask as I'm British and we can't "do" live guns as you can in the US!) "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!" strawberry 9 Posted May 27, 2013 Share #31 Posted May 27, 2013 As said....just amazing. So is this a "war room" in the making still? I think you're going to need shelving around the entire room to display what you have. Thanks for posting and please keep us posted on the progress.

( I only ask as I'm British and we can't "do" live guns as you can in the US!) No requirement, but these do stay in a locked room in their own wing of the house. I think you're going to need shelving around the entire room to display what you have. Thanks for posting and please keep us posted on the progress. You could say more in a "temporary holding pattern", because I have much better plans for the room, but don't have the ability to make them a reality YET. There is still a TON of stuff you can't see: patches, knives/bayonets, medals, paper goods, photo albums, and much more. B24AT6 Posted June 9, 2013 Author Share #48 Posted June 9, 2013 The crates behind the Tank have an interesting history. They came from the Fort Pierce, Fl Naval amphibious training base, which was one of the main Naval landing craft drivers facilities in the US. The base was used to train landing craft drivers for the Normandy landings and was also the birthplace of the UDTs, the predecessors of the SEALS. The crates were taken FULL from the base after its closure at the end of the war. When they came to me one had been opened and had some Canteens removed, and I later gave some away, but the other is still FULL. I also have crates with an equal number of covers. I also have USN/USMC camo poncho crates from the base, but all the ponchos were gone before they came to me.
