Jack's Son Posted May 26, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2013 That's kind of cool. If it wasn't always a paperweight, maybe it was a muzzle plug.
Charlie Flick Posted May 27, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 27, 2013 Garandy: Nice find. That brass casting could have been made as a paperweight (before air conditioning rendered paperweights as useful as buggy whips) or it may have been something else. The Armory had those molds available. I have seen similarly sized brass SA emblems mounted on mahogany plaques (I have a someone larger sized version on my library wall that I found years ago) and suspect that most were gift or tribute items for those who worked at the Armory. Larger size brass versions were found throughout the Armory complex starting with those located on the pillars at the entrance gates. See the photo below, and notice the emblem mounted on the building in the distance. Regards, Charlie
dalbert Posted June 1, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 1, 2013 Garandy, Very cool item. If you would like to sell it, please let me know. I was at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site last Friday with the American Society of Arms Collectors. The place is full of awesome national history.
