M38 and M41 Field Jackets

Recommended Posts

I'm proud of this because I found it and didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for it. I found it at a flea-tique and got it for $5! It's also the only M1941 I've ever found offline.

I bought this jacket one year ago. I saw one before and a collector called it a "Brit-made" M1941 field jacket. It has thick brown lining (Brit BD fabric?), "khaki" plastic buttons, zipper made by "lightning". The khaki fabric is less fragile than the normal cotton poplin seen on US made M1941's. I didn't find any labels. Can someone tell me what it is?

It has the two adjusting straps at the back with 3 buttons at each side. It also has the adjusting straps on the cuffs/sleeves. Just like the standard M1941 field jacket.

Does that stamping say US Acad? If it does then that was a stamp used on the repro uniforms and items from Saving Private Ryan. Mind you it looks too well made for that.

What do you need another one of those for.....you have 6 of them already ?.........

my girlfriend to me on a regular basis as another piece of US WW2 "Green stuff" aka militaria arrives in the post..:-)

The liner on these repro jackets is the dead give away. The originals have a fuzzy, blanket type lining and the repros have a greener, almost gabardine look. The out side just about perfect.

Here are a few of my favorites, the first is a Marine Corps jacket that belonged to my best friends father, Martin "Marty" Rogers. He served on Iwo and later spent time in China at the end of the war as an occupation troop. The second jacket was from a ground pounder with the 487 fighter squadron, the 8th AAF patch and rank insignia are British made.

Here are a couple more jackets, both are Army Aircorps. The first is a modified or tailored M41 from a airman that served in the 81st bomb Squadron. There nick name was the Earthquakers, they served in both the ETO and the Pacific. If you look closely the pinup is sitting inside an outline of the state of Oregan, which is the state that his airman lived. All the patches are leather as is the Earthquakers logo that is stitched across the top of the back of the jacket. The 2nd jacket is to a Recon Sq with the 8th AAF. If anyone knows which squadron it is I would sure like to know.

Looks original to me. This one is the type with "khaki" lining. Have one in my collection. 34R is prety small and the condition of it is very poor. I think you can get one like this on Ebay for 25 dollars.
