Full color 26th Infantry

We have one of CSM Dobol's tropical coats here in our collection. It is patched the same way with a 26th INF pocket patch. All the tapes are locally made and sleeve rank are subdued.

Subdued 3rd Brigade

Just revisted the topic again and noticed the insignia on the soft cap, is this a mni color version of the 3rd Bde pocket patch?

Can't confirm this as of yet, but I believe this one, one for the 8th Infantry might of been worm when a unit of the 8th Infantry, the 2nd Battle Group 8th Infantry was a part of the 1st Division, it was according to one source as being assigned to the Big Red One from 1960 to 1963, another source January 1959-1963. Since the 1st Division was a major wearer of the type it stands to reason the the 2nd BG 8th Inf wore this when they were with the 1st Division.

From approximately 1959 to sometime in 1963 at the time of the ROAD reforms, the 1st Infantry Division had Infantry units that apart from one never was traditional to it.

Order of Battle, Infantry, 1st Infantry Division 1960

1st Battle Group 5th Infantry

2nd Battle Group 8th Infantry

2nd Battle Group 12th Infantry

1st Battle Group 13th Infantry

1st Battle Group 28th Infantry (served with the 1st Div, 1917-1940)

So with these units the 5th, 8th 12th, 13th Infantry Battle Groups (28th we know did wear theirs) it's real probable that while they were in the 1st Div circa 1959-63 that they two worn their unit pocket patches.

Another example of a Big Red One with Name Tape above the U.S. ARMY Tape. Again the 1st Medical Battalion is seen, like the previous one with the name Newman, this one will be from the midish 50s. Since this is the second one from the 1st Medical Battalion with the Name Tape over the U.S. ARMY Tape it is unknown if this was a style or fashion of wearing the Name Tape only affected by troops the 1st Med Bn in the mid 50s.

Shirt was posted quite awhile back by another member.

Anyone knows if something similar was made by other units but on the other side? I asked something about here:

I also have other utilities showing a second tape removed

Other possibilities. That version does not resemble any other 1st Division worn regimental patches I have seen so far.

Redesignated 1 August 1957 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battle Group, 8th Infantry, assigned to the 8th Infantry Division, and activated in Germany (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated)

Relieved 1 January 1959 from assignment to the 8th Infantry Division and assigned to the 1st Infantry Division

Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1963 as the 2d Battalion, 8th Infantry; concurrently relieved from assignment to the 1st Infantry Division and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division

Inactivated 13 September 1972 at Fort Carson, Colorado

Found another Big Red One unit pocket patch, the 5th Infantry, from February 1959 to February 1963 the 1st Battle Group 5th Infantry was a part of the 1st Division.

Sorry about the blurryness, I had to inlarge it a bit.

The pocket patch apparently was worn by the 5th Inf as early as 1955-56 when it was with the 71st Inf Div at Lewis, as I have a 71st Inf Div shirt with the pocket patch.

It's a little hard to make out but the flour-de-lis on the pocket patch and Transportation Corps branch insignia on the officer's collar identify this as the 1st Supply & Transportation Battalion.

Here are a couple of Vietnam made pocket patch for the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 28th Infantry. What's interesting about these particular variations is that rather than being in the shape of a shield per the original DUI, one is in the shape of a rectangle while the other has a curved bottom edge, both of which which were probably easier to manufacture.

Nice pocket hanger TH, unfortunetely it's not germane to this topic, the 1st Squardron 1st Cavalry was not in the Big Red One but rather associated with the Americal Division, it was the 1st Squadron 4th Cavalry that was the Big Red One's CAV unit.

1st Infantry Division SSI encased in plastic worn on the khaki uniform of an infantryman

Hey that Big Red One in the hanger looks like the AG44 version.
