Der Finn Posted May 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2013 This patch was given to me by a PT boat veteran many years ago. He told me this patch was worn for only about a month or so when a high-ranking officer ordered them removed "because we don't wear color patches in the U.S. Navy!". Comments appreciated, thanks. Allan H. Posted May 15, 2013 Share #3 Posted May 15, 2013 This patch looks like it was an embroidery test sample rather than something that was made for issue. It is common to see bright colors used in the stitching. It helps to identify the flaws in the stitching. Why else would the waves be green? I can see a sailor getting hold of this because it was so different and even sewing it on a uniform, I think it was ordered to be removed because it wasn't an authorized example. Der Finn Posted May 15, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted May 15, 2013 Thanks for the comments, gentlemen! Allan, I believe you are correct. The patch wasn't authorized and that's probably why they were ordered removed.
