claymore Posted May 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2013 Hey Guys, just picked up a fine lamp made from a cartridge of a 37mm Hotchkiss naval revolving cannon. This thing is real nicely done, has flowers worked onto the brass casing and has the projectile with a copper band..Works great. What I have read is this hand cranked gun was on navy ships and used against torpedo boats and other things into WW1... It fired up to 60 rds, per minute What I wish to know is how to identify the headstamp on this shell sooooo... Has W.N.Y. on top dated 7-1901 under the primer 1 PDRH under this is E.H.C.l --------------then an anchor----- R.T.C.... that's it Is there anyone who knows what this means?? Wish I could show pictures Sure like it and will make an ideal reading lamp for the bedstand. Any help would be greatly appreciated (wifey found it for me while I was paying attention to a rifle) Thanks Claymore

Brian Keith Posted May 17, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 17, 2013 "W.N.Y"- Washington Naval Yard; "7-1901"- Manufactured, July, 1901; "1 PDWR" - One Pounder shell. The other letters are inspectors marks. Sounds like a nice item! BKW
