Too Much WW1 Militaria

I don't collect WW2 anything really, and even I know that you got something special there! Congrats!

I got the helmet today and it looks great. It has the UNIS marking on both sides. The liner has the soldiers name on the sides. The heat stamp is 25R. The liner is CAPAC.

Here is the hat I got with the helmet. It has the USMC screw back emblem the hat has a different name than the helmet so I guess they belonged to different people.

Hi,

I think the owner of the helmet was Melvin R. Hammon according to ancestry.com, if the Initials and last name I saw were correct... Seems to be you guy though, served in the same regiment.

Thanks

Thank you!

He must have enlisted in 1944 when he turned 18. He was born in 26

No problem...

The navy casualty book has a PFC Melvin R Hammon, USMCR, as being wounded also. Might be him!

Thanks

Not a helmet collector so the question is purely for my own education. What would a knowledgeable helmet collector/seller have asked for this?

With the crazy prices I see mentioned, it seems clear you got a 'steal'.

Wow! I'm clearly too much of a guilt ridden Scandinavian. I'd have died of guilt on that one :)

OK, well : a nice helmet with a UNIS marked camo cover and identified to boot ... difficult to upgrade this one B)

The holy grail of many USMC collectors ;)

I don't plan on selling this one yet.

Well, seems you've changed your mind very fast
