ArchangelDM Posted April 24, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2013 Hi all well today it finally arrived, this is what i believe to be a true Nam period Piece. Firstly the inside of the liner is rusted and extremley worn, this i am told is very usual of used Vietnam liners and shells, due to condensation and tropical weather. The graffitti camo is literally stuck to the shell, along with the M151 band. I have slightly lifted the rubber band and can see arks where it has sat for years, but the coolest part of this complete rig has to be the soldiers/Marines graffiti, the camo is 64 dated (5823) and a june 66 Marmac Liner. As can be seen on the pics the camo has been in this position since it was used , it is stiff and has its correct shape for a camo cover that has been in place for some time. The top of the helmet has been re stitched , kind of like Frankenstein by the soldier/Marine , he wanted to keep this on his helmet for the duration. He must of had a fab sense of humour as he has put an ear on one side and a bug on the other. Also as seen there appears to be tiger stripes/branches on the top and side. On the inside of the liner there was once a name and a number but its long gone, just some faded letters remain. As always im looking forward to hearing all of your comments, and i hope you enjoyed viewing this piece Thanks D "Rise and rise again until lambs become lions." Sabrejet Posted April 24, 2013 Share #8 Posted April 24, 2013 MarMac liners were very short-lived. I've got two...both '55 pattern with the WW2 type suspension. Yours is post '63 style. How is it marked? "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!" Sabrejet Posted April 24, 2013 Share #10 Posted April 24, 2013 Marked US 19 No "M" ? "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. Sabrejet Posted April 24, 2013 Share #11 Posted April 24, 2013 A MarMac liner. Note the "M". "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!" Winston Churchill " Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans." John Winston Lennon

Sabrejet Posted April 24, 2013 Share #13 Posted April 24, 2013 No M Just US 19 So it isn't a MarMac then. I believe in his first post WW2 M1 book Reynosa describes the 60s liners with just "US" as "maker unknown". "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!" Sabrejet Posted April 24, 2013 Share #18 Posted April 24, 2013 Makes no difference ........... They are crap . Middle of the road rubbish . Kick out the jams ....... It'll have to be Van Morrison then...or The Undertones? "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. kklinejr Posted April 25, 2013 Share #20 Posted April 25, 2013 The wear looks like everything I would expect on a period piece. The octobug is creepy, but you figure if a guy is out in the bush, why not? Looks like a great salty rig. As for it being a Marmac, is there a day noted for the contract date on it? Marmac made over 10 contracts of liners in the 1960s and early 1970s- just wondering about the day- if it is 6, 8, or 25 June? I am actively seeking USMC Named Good Conduct Medals and items pertaining to the USS Indianapolis CA35.
