Kansas Raider Posted January 18, 2020 #76 Posted January 18, 2020 the only other medals that came with the PH were the Korean Service Medal (USMC) dated 1955, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal. Why would the newspaper list the other awards? Steve
P-40Warhawk Posted January 18, 2020 #77 Posted January 18, 2020 Most of the other awards were created later, but were retroactive. I suppose if you used newer regulations to see what awards he would have been issued, some of those would show up because of their being retroactively applied.
Kansas Raider Posted February 16, 2020 #79 Posted February 16, 2020 Here is a purple heart that is in poor condition no ribbon, no enamel on the front. Here is a scan of the engraving on the back. What do you think? Sorry for the bad images. Thanks Steve

bobgee Posted February 16, 2020 #81 Posted February 16, 2020 Looks to be privately engraved. +1 ….and probably carried by the recipient as a pocket token based on the condition.
Kansas Raider Posted February 16, 2020 #82 Posted February 16, 2020 Would the number under the nams be his service number? Steve
Brian Dentino Posted February 16, 2020 #83 Posted February 16, 2020 Would the number under the nams be his service number? Steve That is what it appears to be. If that is a 0 at the beginning of the # then he would have been an officer.
KASTAUFFER Posted February 17, 2020 #84 Posted February 17, 2020 Definitely privately engraved. That is also an Army officers service number to a reserve officer who would’ve served in the Army beginning in the 1920s or 30s. Kurt
