Patchcollector Posted April 13, 2013 #1 Posted April 13, 2013 Hi all, Here is a Vietnam war era group from my collection named to a Commander(Pilot) in the Navy. His name is Jim Berry, and judging from the medals and his ribbon bar,he had a long, illustrious career with the Navy.In this group there is a Thai made patch for the Fleet Air Support Unit (FASU) out of UTapao Thailand,a small unit that serviced Navy air assets there, some wings, medals, ribbons,a "challenge" type coin, and two POW bracelets that have been broken in two,due to the pilots coming home? I was hoping that there would be more info that came with the group, like some paperwork,or records, but unfortunately, there isn't.I'm thinking that he probably flew with a VP unit too,but I'm just guessing. If anyone here can help me with a few things,I would much appreciate it.I don't know much about medals, ribbons, and devices,if anyone could help me there, please feel free to.Also,if anyone has access to any of the record sites and can find out any more info about Jim Berry, that would be awesome. Thanks!
firefighter Posted April 14, 2013 #13 Posted April 14, 2013 Nice grouping to a brave man.Thank you for sharing.
Guest mkstod Posted May 9, 2013 #14 Posted May 9, 2013 Commander Berry was the CO at FASU when I was discharged in June 1975. I believe he was stationed in Nakhon Phanom Thailand earlier in the war. He was very well liked and respected by the sailors and airmen at Utapao.
