hink441 Posted April 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 12, 2013 Nice video of a typical Suez transit for a US Navy Ship, in this case it is the USS Kearsarge. Time lapsed to only 60 seconds. If I remember correctly it actually takes about 18 hours. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=5da_1365562902

topdcnut Posted April 13, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 13, 2013 That was nice............ actually sweeeeeet! Apparently I was busy below decks during most of the transit. but even on a destroyer the canal seemed small.
hink441 Posted April 13, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted April 13, 2013 We usually had a good time when going through the "Ditch". Before 9/11, it was a fun event. We used to see if we could tee up and drive a golf ball from the boat to the shore line. I never was able to land one. I think overall I had 18 trips through the Canal. Dave Posted April 14, 2013 Share #6 Posted April 14, 2013 The last few times for me, I was in charge of the ship's AT/FP personnel and posture. A very, very, very long day of looking at sand...and invariably long enough where it would be book-ended by standing a 4 to 6 hour watch...not a good time...
